*Ukrainian folktale: The Old Dog*

*Told by Jane*

*Once there was a dog. Most of his life, he served his owners. When he was old, he was treated badly. One day, a wolf passed by and saw him. Hearing his story, the wolf asked him to go to the field because his master there could give him something. But the dog refused because his owners would not let him walk in the field and just beat him. The wolf told him he saw the owners’ child was put down beneath the wagon. He would seize the child and asked the dog to chase him and bark out loud as much as possible. They did. After the owner chased the wolf and got back the child. The husband and the wife thanked the dog. Everyday after, they treated the dog better.*
