*Folktale from Liberia: The chief who was no fool*
*There was a chief who was no fool. One day, an old man told him his neighbor had stolen his sheeps. The neighbor didn’t admit what he did. The chief told both to solve his question and the one who did that would have the sheeps. His question was what was the fastest thing in the world. The old man with the help from his wise and beautiful daughter told the chief that time was the fastest thing in the world. The chief was very happy with the answer and asked the man about who helped him to find the answer. Firstly the man lied that he did solve by himself. The chief didn’t agree then the old man admited his daughter helped him. The chief wanted to meet her. After the meeting, the chief got married to the girl. He told her everything in his house belonged to her, she would be his beloved wife as long as she didn’t get involved in his judgements to his people, if she broke his rule she had to come back to her father’s house. The girl obeyed his rule until one day there was a boy who did need her help to solve her husband’s question. She helped him to solve the question. The chief was very angry and told her to leave at the end of the day and she could bring with her whatever she wanted. The chief was drunk and slept. The girl told her father to bring the sleeping chief to her father’s house in the evening. The morning the chief got up and realized he was in his wife’s father’s house. The girl told him the thing she wanted to bring with her when she left was him. He was touched, then allowed her to come back his house.*
*I think the chief was very intelligent because he did arrange his marriage with her and did test her for his rule.*
