*Tale from the Ivory Coast : The Rebel Girl and the Corpse*
*There once was a beautiful girl called Nan Kôgnon. She didn’t want to get married with anybody in the tribe even the most fearsome hunter of the tribe, the great hunter N’gassélet with the reason that he bore scars.*
*One day a very handsome man came, well-built with a fine complexion and no scars on his body. She saw him and then she decided to get married with him. After getting married, on the way to the house of the husband which was a cemetery. The husband was decomposing, loosing more and more of his flesh. Nan was very afraid and ran away but the husband caught her and said: “You are not going anywhere. You chose me, so you will live here. Boil some water and pour it into my head cavity.”*
*Daily she did that for him and became thinner and was miserable. At night, she sang out to show the repentance. One night, when she was singing, she met N’gassélet who was hunting nearby. She begged him to save her. He did. When they came back to the village, she asked him to get married with her without asking anything. Then they had the children with both hard-working and humble.*
