*Jack and His Wonderful Hen*

*Jack and his parents lived in a remote part of Canada. He had no brothers and sisters. His family was very poor. They just had an old goat to provide them the milk everyday. When Jack grew up, he decided to go out into the world to earn money so that his parents could buy better food. His parents didn’t want him to leave because they only had him as their happiness.*

*Then he received a job for a week in a very large farm. He did very good. What he did for one week were equal to the works of a whole year if many other men did. He got paid a little of money and an old hen which could lay twenty-four eggs a day. He was not happy at all for the payment. When he got back home. His parents laughed at his wage. However when they saw what the hen could bring to them, they were very pleased.*

*After one week, Jack decided to leave again to earn more money.He told his parents he would sell the hen for more money. This time his parents agreed because from the first time they saw he could take care of himself. He sold the hen for a Seigneur with lots of money which could afford his family a comfortable life.*

*After a few weeks, Jack decided to leave again. This time, he wanted to sell the old goat. He sold to the Seigneur and received lots of money. But in the evening, he stole the goat from the Seigneur’s property. This time, his parents were very angry. His father said, “No good can come of it. The old goat will bring you to a sad end.”*

*After a few days, Jack decided to leave to seek his fortune and took the goat with him. This time he met a robber who offered to make him very rich if he joined his team. In the evening, Jack was very afraid when the robber wanted to kill him for the goat. When the robber approached him and was going to stab him with his knife, The Seigneur saved him. The robber was put into jail. The Seigneur realized Jack was very young, he might get a lesson after that and if he could learn more about life, he could live a better life and help others. He asked him to pay for his stealing by working for him five years without any payments. Jack thanked him for saving his life. He agreed.*

*After five years of hard working, Jack learned lots of things from The Seigneur and helped lots of people. Jack went home to live with his parents. He started his own business and was very successful. He and his family had a happy and wealthy life.
